Jami R. Moran, LBSW Wiin/She/Her/Hers

Jami R. Moran - LBSW is a citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and has been employed with the Tribe since 2000.  Mrs. Moran was hired as the Advocacy Resource Center (ARC) Program Manager during 2013 and became the Program Director during 2020. Mrs. Moran has extensive employment experience providing supportive services to underserved Native American populations within rural communities in the primary areas of culturally honoring outpatient substance abuse treatment, adolescent residential treatment, Indian child welfare programming, and the provision of community based victim services.  Mrs. Moran is a member of the Sault Tribe's Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), the Child Protection Team (CPT), the Domestic Violence Court, and the Tribal Action Plan (TAP) Team ensuring survivor voices and rights remain in the forefront of all decision making processes. Mrs. Moran continues to strongly advocate within the Tribe, the community, the State of Michigan, and across the nation to amend institutional practices that are detrimental to a survivor’s healing and dishonoring of tribal sovereignty and government-to-government relationships. Mrs. Moran is firm supporter of local, state and federal consultation processes and is an active participant in the drafting of oral and written testimony to advocate for the sustainability and enhancement of tribal justice systems.  Mrs. Moran is a member of the Sault Tribe's Tribal Justice System (TJS) Team that was instrumental in the Tribe’s 2016 implementation of the Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA) expansion of Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction (SDVCJ) over non-native perpetrators of violence occurring against Native American survivors domiciled on Sault Tribe trust land and also who also successfully completed a criminal justice system Strategic Plan approved by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) providing the Sault Tribe preferential funding consideration during the 2018 Department of Justice – Coordinated Tribal Assistance Services (CTAS) Grant solicitation. Mrs. Moran became a licensed bachelor's level social worker with the State of Michigan during 2000 and has served as a Board Member of Michigan’s Native American Domestic and Sexual Violence Coalition, Uniting Three Fires Against Violence (UTFAV), since 2014.  Mrs. Moran additionally became a Board Member of the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCEDSV) during 2018 and served as Vice President from 2019-2021.  Mrs. Moran earned a Certificate in Marketing and Distribution during High School and graduated Cum Laude from Lake Superior State University during 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services and Sociology.
